Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Botox injections have an ingredient that’s extracted from Clostridium Botulinum, a kind of bacterium. Clostridium Botulinum freezes the muscles it comes into contact with. Botox was initially created while exploring options to treat muscle spasms through freezing. During ongoing studies, researchers discovered that freezing the muscles offers other benefits like smoother, younger-looking skin, decreased severity and frequency of migraine headaches, and decreased sweating. Botox is well-known for helping people reduce the appearance of wrinkles, it doesn’t produce any long-term side effects. However, it restricts muscle movements such that facial expressions are fairly limited. For instance, someone who’s had Botox injections can’t frown or smile as easily.

Anti-wrinkle injections before & aftercare
Pre Treatment
Ensure you book your botox appointment at least 2 weeks before any special events or occasions as results can take 1-2 weeks to be visible. Also as bruising is expected you want to give time to heal.
You should also avoid blood thinning medications and anti-inflammatory medicines for the 2 weeks leading up to your treatment. Also avoid alcohol, aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, and NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen and Advil in the days before your appointment. All of these can thin your blood which increases the likelihood of you experiencing swelling or bruising after botox injections. Discuss with your practitioner any concerns you may have. It may not be prudent for you to stop taking certain prescription medication. Do not use Retin-A creams or products 2 days before or 2 days after treatment.
Post Treatment
Exercise – Avoid exercise or strenuous activity for 24-48 hours after botox to allow the ingredients to settle into your body.
Touching – Do not touch the area, you may be tempted to massage the injection site. Resist that desire and leave the area alone. Your skin needs time to recover from the treatment. You will slow down your healing process if you aggravate the injection site by rubbing or massaging the area. After 6 hours, you may gently wash the injection site with soap and water, but not before then.
Lying Down – Avoid lying down for the first few hours after treatment, and try to sleep face up for the first few days following treatment.
No Alcohol – It is important to avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours after treatment to reduce negative side effects including bruising.
Blood thinning medication – You should also avoid blood thinning medications and anti-inflammatory medicines for several days following your treatment, speak to your GP if needed.
Avoid exposure to heat and sun – After your Botox treatment, you need to avoid being out in the heat, tanning, self-tanning beds, or heat lamps for 72 hours following your treatment. You should not expose yourself to excessive heat until all the redness and swelling has gone from the injection site. If you are exposed to sun ensure you wear sun cream.
No Facials – Avoid waxing, facials, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion for a minimum of 10 days following your procedure. Remember that your botox results will begin to appear 1-2 weeks after your treatment. Give your face time to recover before undergoing other treatments.
Post treatment care – If you have any discomfort following your treatment, you may take paracetamol as needed. Applying a cool compress on the injection site can help reduce swelling too. Place the cool compress on the site for 15 minutes every hour. If you have swelling, you can prop up your head in bed with pillows to help bring the swelling down.
Ensure you follow the pre and post treatment guidance to get the most out of your anti-wrinkle treatment.

It may not be prudent for you to stop taking certain prescription medication. Do not use Retin-A creams or products 2 days before or 2 days after treatment. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores. Please let your practitioner know if you are prone. Do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any ingredients, or suffer from neurological disorders. Please inform me if you have any questions about this prior to your treatment.

Lip Fillers before & aftercare
If you have bruising at the injection site, it may help to apply aloe vera, vitamin K, or arnica creams.
Apply ice to your lips afterward using an ice pack or an ice cube covered in a thin cloth (so it doesn’t stick to the lip and cause pain). This will help ease swelling, itching, bruising, and any other pain.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours after you get lip or any other dermal fillers. Elevated blood pressure and heart rate from exercise may make swelling or bruising worse. It’s fine to engage in light activity, like walking.
Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will help your body heal.
Avoid high temperatures, like steam rooms, saunas, or heated exercise classes for 48 hours after treatment. High heat can make swelling more pronounced.
Ask your doctor which pain medications are OK to take in the days after your treatment. Normally paracetamol will be fine, but not blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen or aspirin.
If you’re getting lip fillers for a specific event, make sure to leave plenty of time in between the procedure and the event to allow your lips to properly recover.
Try to sleep with your head elevated on pillows to reduce swelling. Do not sleep on your face.
Avoid makeup on your lips for up to 24 hours after the procedure
Alcohol – Avoid Alcohol for a few days before treatment and a few days after. Alcohol acts as a blood thinner, so you should avoid it for at least 24 hours after getting lip fillers. Alcohol can also cause inflammation, increase the likelihood of bruising, and make swelling worse.
Flying – Your doctor will likely recommend that you wait at least a week after your treatment before flying. This is because the air pressure in a plane can make swelling and bruising worse.
You’ll see immediate results with lip fillers, but once the swelling goes down, the results will not look quite as pronounced. It typically takes about 4 weeks for the filler to settle in and achieve the final, desired look. The results will typically last about 6 months
